Designing a Better Future

Carlos Peña

Business founder and owner Carlos Peña has been a graphic designer and screen printer for over 15 years. A Milton Hershey Alumni and A UMass Amherst grad originally from the Dominican Republic  who was raised in New York City now residing in Holyoke, he opened Paper City Clothing after deciding to turn his skills into his own business. This also involved turning his bathroom into a darkroom - but thanks to so much support from customers and community it’s come a long way since then!  Carlos is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to exotic animals especially Great Apes, and he knows his way around the kitchen with some special native recipes.  He loves working with youth and outside of running Paper City Clothing Company he is the Director of the "Youth Entrepreneurship program"  at Lighthouse Holyoke.

Katy Moonan

has played a behind the scenes role at Paper City Clothing Company since day one and these days focuses on steering the bigger picture strategic development of the business (goal: continue growing as a community-centered creative business that helps internal and external collaborators prosper). With a background in entrepreneurship now working towards an MBA from Umass Amherst, she nerds out about business models that challenge greedy capitalist ways. She grew up in Mexico but now calls Holyoke home. She is a proud cat mom and loves reading, salsa dancing and anything outdoors.
