What does it take to be a working artist? The show LOCAL VISION centers the lived realities, creative labor, and entrepreneurial resilience of artists working here and now.
Join us Saturday January 24th from 12-3pm to meet the artists and enjoy a festive reception with robust refreshments! Free, open to all. (Snow date is Sunday January 25th).
Curated by Maricela Garcia, the show brings together three distinct but complementary practices from artists Robin Griffith, Ryan Murray, and the curator Garcia. Robin Griffith’s photography and mixed media works are about capturing moments, emotions and finding a new way to look at something you have already seen before; Ryan Murray’s works in spray paint and painting unearth and examines unsettling but important conversations around mental health in Black communities; and Maricela Garcia’s own urban multidisciplinary works centering collage and photography. Each artist presents a body of work created within the past five years.
Running from January through March, LOCAL VISION will include an opening reception, an artist talk focused on current creative work in the region, and a hands-on workshop for young artists to learn how to put together an exhibition of their own. Throughout the show and accompanying programs, LOCAL VISION highlights not only artistic output, but the systems and strategies that support sustainable creative careers.
By merging local talent, creativity, and passion with art-focused entrepreneurship supported by Paper City Clothing Company, LOCAL VISION invites us to imagine what’s possible—especially the future potential of showcasing emerging young artists at PCCC.
Reception sponsored by Activating Language Access.
